How it happened

When Britain-based Jamaican artist IQ needed reinforcements for the remix of “Bun Fi Bun” — his January 2022 original with Stefflon Don had already passed a million YouTube views — he called two of the sharpest voices on either side of the Atlantic: Stalk Ashley and Kranium.

“Bun Fi Bun Remix” (May 2022)

The remix and its video landed May 19, 2022. IQ had flown to Jamaica that April to shoot on the island’s north coast — ocean-view balconies for him, while Stalk Ashley delivers her verse from a dark-tinted room, jumping on the riddim with the tit-for-tat energy the title demands (“bun fi bun” being dancehall’s time-honoured doctrine of retaliatory cheating). DancehallMag reported the drop drew immediate positive feedback.

About Kranium

Kranium — Kemar Donaldson, born in Montego Bay and raised between Miami and Queens, New York — owns one of modern dancehall’s defining sleeper hits: “Nobody Has to Know” (2013) broke through New York radio, won him an Atlantic Records deal, and went Platinum in the US and Canada and multi-Platinum in the UK, with its video passing 100 million views. Having him and Stalk Ashley trading verses on one riddim made the remix a genuine three-city record: London, New York, Kingston.
