How the Banana challenge led to “Wasteman”
Jada Kingdom released her single “Banana” in July 2018, and it quickly turned into a social media challenge in which fans recorded their own verses over the track. One of those entries came from an up-and-coming singer named Stalk Ashley.
Her freestyle travelled fast. In September 2018 The Weekend Star reported that the clip had been shared on Jada Kingdom’s own Instagram page, where it passed 100,000 views and drew more than 1,000 comments. Ashley told the paper she had joined the challenge to support Jada and to show what she could do, and that she had not expected it to go viral. Within weeks the two singers had a record together. “Wasteman” arrived on October 4, 2018, with an official lyric video on Jada Kingdom’s VEVO channel. For Stalk Ashley, it was her first release alongside an established name, and the start of a career that has since included collaborations with Alkaline, Skillibeng and Sean Paul (see her career timeline).

2020 was the year Jada Kingdom connected with dancehall’s most influential deejay twice. First she appeared on “Cast Iron Heart” from Kartel’s To Tanesha, then in July she brought him onto a remix of her own single “Heavy!”, a move DancehallMag covered at the time. A month later she was on Popcaan’s FIXTAPE, rounding out a busy year of features.
John Legend’s LEGEND
Her most high-profile feature came in September 2022, when “Speak In Tongues” appeared on John Legend’s double album LEGEND. DancehallMag had reported the upcoming collaboration a month earlier. It put her voice on an album by one of R&B’s best-known singers, a long way from the Kingston dancehall circuit where she started.
The OVO connection
Two of her features landed on projects tied to Drake’s OVO Sound. “SUH ME LUV IT” appeared on Popcaan’s FIXTAPE, released through OVO Sound in August 2020, and in July 2023 she joined Canadian singer Roy Woods, an OVO artist, on “That Thang” from his album Mixed Emotions. A reunion with Govana
“Pull Over” (April 2024) reunited Jada Kingdom with Govana six years after “Better Than That”. The official video premiered on Govana’s YouTube channel, and the song went on to appear on his album Legacy.
A busy 2026
2026 has brought several new collaborations. The New Religion EP (February) included “Moody” with Ghana-born, Maryland-based rapper Foggieraw. In July she teamed up with veteran deejay Baby Cham on “Move”, produced by the Grammy-winning collective FaNaTIX and released through Lawless Army Productions and DubShot Records, according to the Jamaica Observer. That was followed by “Tears” with fellow Jamaican singer Shaneil Muir, produced by Yo Christon. The same period brought her two 2026 Caribbean Music Awards nominations, including Song of the Year for “G.A.D.”.
