The story

How it happened

Skillibeng — Emwah Ryan Warmington, born December 23, 1996 in Lyssons, St Thomas — is the defining voice of trap-dancehall: “Brik Pan Brik” (2019) announced him, “Crocodile Teeth” (2020) made him global, Nicki Minaj jumped on the remix, RCA Records signed him, and the MOBOs crowned him Best Caribbean Music Act in 2022. His link with Stalk Ashley started the way modern classics do now: in the DMs.

“Really Like U” (2024): from a DM to the Trending chart

“This song came to life from a DM exchange,” Stalk Ashley told the Jamaica Observer. “I’ve been eyeing a collaboration with Skillibeng for some time, but I wanted it to be the right song. This was, indeed, the right one.” Released March 1, 2024 via her own Stalk Ashley Music/Zojak World Wide — with Skillibeng appearing courtesy of RCA — the record was produced by Jaxx and KingBnjmn with additional production from MXSSIVH, and its video was directed by Now or Never | Shane Creative.

The response was instant: 464,000 views inside the first week and #12 on YouTube’s Trending chart, past 1.1 million views within six weeks, and over 3.3 million today. She wasn’t surprised. “There was no doubt in my mind about releasing Really Like U,” she told the Observer. “It’s undeniably good.” The Jamaica Star’s read on the pairing: a first-time collaboration that “will by no means be the last, if their synergy is anything to go by.”

The nomination

“Really Like U” earned a nomination for Dancehall Collaboration of the Year at the 3rd Annual Caribbean Music Awards (August 28, 2025, Kings Theatre, Brooklyn), sharing the category with records by Shenseea & Masicka, Popcaan & Chronic Law, Govana & Jada Kingdom and more. It also became track 8 on Stalky the Bratt — the album it was built to preview.
