Every era gets the origin story it deserves, and the bratt era’s biggest hit began with a direct message. “This song came to life from a DM exchange,” Stalk Ashley told the Jamaica Observer of “Really Like U”, her first-ever collaboration with Skillibeng. “I’ve been eyeing a collaboration with Skillibeng for some time, but I wanted it to be the right song.”
Released March 1, 2024 through her own Stalk Ashley Music imprint with Zojak World Wide — Skillibeng guesting courtesy of RCA — the Jaxx and KingBnjmn-produced single (additional production: MXSSIVH) came with a Now or Never | Shane Creative video that hit 464,000 views in its first week and #12 on YouTube’s Trending chart. By April it had passed a million; today it sits above 3.3 million, with a Caribbean Music Awards nomination for Dancehall Collaboration of the Year to show for it.
It was also a preview: five months later the song anchored her debut album Stalky the Bratt at track 8, exactly as planned. As she put it to the Observer: “There was no doubt in my mind.”
